Just been on holiday to the alps (West Austria). Amongst the orchid species in profusion was Dactylorhiza majalis alpestris. In marshy areas and damp seepages between about 1500 to 2000 m in altitude these almost magenta candles are a spectacle.
Tasty too, it seems, if you’re a bovine!
